ENGINE DIES Sign In

i have a 2010 DODGE JOUNEY V-6 SXT AWD with about 85,000 miles on it. it has NEVER given me any problems before tonite.

i was going to the gas station to fill up. i had just turned the corner-about 1/2 block & the engine died. it started back up. i got to the station, filled up & pulled out onto the street from the station-about 1/8 mile-& it died again. the plug in amp guage i have showed 10.9 A-11.3A. the engine would not turn over. no sound. a SHERIFF's deputy stopped & checked my problem. as i was explaining to him...i replaced the "HORN" fuses i had removed because...about an hour earlier....my neighbor came over & knocked on my door about my car randomly "HONKING"-on it's own-again!!!! i pulled the fuses to stop this "NUSIANCE".

on the way back home after starting it....i saw the tach QUICKLY "DIP" as i was driving about 30 mph...but continued running. i got all the way home....backed into the drive...let it idle for about 30 seconds-no problems. i then drove down my street out on to a city main street & steadily accellerated to 35 mph. i made a turn about 1/4 mile & began to accellerate. the tack dipped "TWICE"-dramatically-on the way back home. after slowing down to make a turn from one side street to another...pulling onto MY street-low rpm-it died again!!!!!!

i did some 2010 DODGE JOURNEY forum i-net research & found that people with JOURNEYS from 2009-2015 were experiencing the same problem...taking them to their dealership...getting them back with the same problem & being told "NO PROBLEM FOUND"!!!!! one forum writer wrote that he checked his VIN # for "RECALLS" for any problems. there were none!!!!

does anyone have a CLUE to this PROBLEM???? could it be RELATED/PARTIALLY RELATED to the "HORN VOLUNTARILY HONKING" problem????

PLEASE HELP ME HERE!!! THANX

Just what "Amp" thing do you just plug in and where. You must mean VOLTS? No sound when trying to re-start this thing?
If engine isn't running volts would read that low with just interior lights on for down time. Alone that means nothing but the horn honking on it own is the clue here.
What aftermarket things or devices are installed in this thing that you know of. Some anti-theft things will honk a horn and MAY disable engine from running?
This is all over the place noting RPMs on a stalled or about to stall engine would be normal means little quit looking at that gauge as information.
No sound now and horn was honking on its own??
Not sure but seems like a failed anti-theft device or a mess of broken parts or wires in the steering column?

The other thing with bizarre things like this is the vehicle was flooded by water recently or even some time before you knew it is a never ending electrical nightmare that is rarely a problem you fix and make last!

This could be why when others are hearing there's nothing wrong from dealerships with presumably the exact same problem?
A dealer is still only as good as the tech with the vehicle in front of them if nothing is found and no codes are stored there's no surprise they would say found nothing wrong.
IDK, something happened that you may not know and is causing all this havoc now I'd first see if it stored any codes if not it has reset suggests a total loss of power recently and or intermittent. You pulled fuses to shut the horn off so asking what other fuses did you pull and leave out till one shut the horn off?
Need some more to go on for a common reason for all this,

T

Re: ENGINE DIES Sign In

TOM,

my BRAINFART!!! wasn't "A-mps"!! WAS VOLTS!!!

i pulled ONLY the "M22 & M23" fuses associated with the "RT & LT" horns. today i started off on a 30 mile trip to pick up my wife for her dentist appt. the fuses were out. the car died TWICE before i got to the highway. while on the highway...the TACH dial kept fluctuating!!! it would drop to 0 & pick back up...causing a PAUSE...in acceleration-in CRUISE mode. it began "RACING"-the engine-up to 6,000 rpm....abruptly...& the speed slowing down on cruise!!!! after babying it about 10 miles with this problem...i stopped & put the fuses back in their proper places & continued the remaining 18 miles....without a SINGLE fault/problem!!!!! took my wife to the dentist in AMES-18 miles from BOONE-no problems!!!

when i got her to the dentist office...i went to the fuse block & removed the 2 fuses again to see if it would act up again on the way back to BOONE. IT DIDN'T have a SINGLE fault/problem....even without the fuses on the return trip!!!!!! HTF can that be?????? no RATIONAL explanation can be given for a vehicle with an ECM that ACTS UP with a designated criteria & NOT repeat the same BEHAVIOR when the same criteria is RE-INTRODUCED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i honestly cannot be CONFIDENT with a dealer-or respectable mechanic-doing a CODE search on the ECM to TROUBLESHOOT this problem....with the FACTS that i established driving the JOURNEY today!!!!

Seems I wasted my time posting what I did, totally ignored.
I have a clue,you seemed uninterested

TIPM stands for Totally Integrated Power Module which is where the fuses are

Chrysler is known for these causing all sorts of weird electrical issues.

There is a known TSB which applies to the weird horn sounding off on its own
I would have Chrysler look into it.

Seems you have a handle on it and don't need us
Good Luck

Re: ENGINE DIES Sign In

Typical symptoms of a TIPM failure
The fuel pump not turning off and burning out
The airbags not deploying OR deploying randomly
The engine stalling while driving
The starter cranks but won’t start
The horn going off at random times
Power windows not working
Doors locking or unlocking themselves
