EPC brake light switch Sign In

Hello all, this is my first time posting here. However, I own a VW however I’ve had the brake lights turning on unless I press the braking pedal about half the way down so I removed the brake light switch the proper way after researching how and I adjusted manually that long plunger the way actually the lights turn on when I instantly press the braking pedal. That way actually safer instead of pushing half the way down so they lit up (during the heavy traffic they were usually won’t lit up since I’d press slightly the pedal) but now it’s working fine with my little adjustment. However I’ve got the EPC came on my dash. I tried erasing the fault codes of braking switch but it goes back after driving the car. Any help how to turn off the EPC light without readjusting the braking light switch ? Because I’m really satisfied with the new adjustment for security reasons. Thanks in advance.

You have to repair the code, not just erase it.

What is the exact code number?

Apparently the switch is not OK and may need to be replaced now as you may have damaged it.

Re: EPC brake light switch Sign In

If the switch is not okay then how comes it’s still operating quite well. The braking lights are working when I press the pedal. I’ve only adjusted the “plunger” so the lights would come on earlier than before. The braking lights used to come on only if I press the pedal about half the way down which is not very good for safety as I said when I be stuck in heavy traffic, the braking lights used to not come on since I’d be pressing the pedal slightly otherwise those from behind would bump into me if I press it hard.

Re: EPC brake light switch Sign In

Because most of those switches perform more than one function. That's why it is monitored by the PCM and yours appears to have been damaged by your modification.
