Sign In 2012 Ford Edge 3.6 200K. Changing out a starter I smacked the transmission cable, no apparent damage but it knocked it in to neutral. Did I damage anything internally or do I need to do anything before starting? Smacked the transmission cable? No damage? I don't know what you did here but I doubt there is any internal trans damage. The cable on the other hand may or may not be damaged. The cable has a slip joint adjuster on the end that can adjust the cable correctly. General on stuff like this is there's what I'll call a turnbuckle to a shaft in an item (trans or other thing) is not round expecting it to turn as it's oval or round with edges cut so it fits just one way.
