Emergency Brake Problems Sign In

Hi. I have a '94 Plymouth Acclaim and not too long ago I applied the emergency brake and when I came back to take it off it released but the light stays on. I checked the brake and it does release but the sensor just doesn't register that the brake has been removed and the light stays on. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to correct this?

Thanks.

The cables are probably sticky from corrosion and it doesn't fully return far enough to shut the light off. Certainly check the brake fluid level and make that's proper. Most cars use the same light for that,

The brake fluid was one of the first things I checked. And after I found out that the emergency brake was releasing, I went back into the car reached down and lifted up the pedal to engage the emergency brake and sure enough the light went out. Then i let go to see if it would stay and as soon as i let go of the pedal it came right back on.

That's classic for sticking cables. They are basic but fussy if you do this yourself and get exact fit replacements. They are near impossible to just free up the old ones (can be just one bad) and have them stay working,
