Engine Cuts Out While Driving

Hi all, first post here. I've had my 2003 Vauxhall Astra for about 8.5 years now, and until fairly recently I've never had this problem, but has happened four times since it started a few months ago, and the last two times were yesterday and today (yesterday's triggered the engine warning light). I'll be driving as normal and suddenly the engine will just cut out on me, leaving me to coast to the side of the road and try to find a safe place to stop and put my hazards on (luckily this has always happened in 30mph zones and only on shorter trips). When I try to start it again it'll just turn over and refuse to start for about 5-10 minutes, before suddenly starting up again as if nothing happened, and I just drive off again. I've checked the voltage on the battery and it holds a healthy 12.6v while off and the alternator charges it at about 14.2v while running, so the problem doesn't seem to be either of them (unless it's a connection problem). I've read that this kind of issue could be down to a faulty ECU, crankshaft position sensor problem etc, but I'm hoping that explaining the details might help zone in on the problem. Does anyone know what the most likely cause might be? Thanks in advance.

I can't give you specifics because that car is not sold here in the US. The first thing you need to do is have the computer codes read as that will point you in the right direction. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Thanks for your reply. If it helps, it's basically the same as an Opel Astra (or Saturn Astra) in the US. I believe the difference is only branding.
