I have a 1986 Honda Accord Hatchback, 2000cc, automatic, PW, a-c with 163,000 miles. I earlier wrote about a vibration in the car body, got a few ideas here, and finally took it to a mechanic who looked at the front end, struts, mounts etc. and couldn't find a problem; not sure what to do next. Another issue with the car is that it surges with the a-c on; occasionally it won't start the surging the first few minutes of operation, but it stops when the a-c is off. My only thoughts are the a-c clutch and perhaps a relay; not sure how to check either of these. Comments are welcome.

The first thing you need to do is determine if the engine surging is the result of the compressor cycling on and off and if it is, then you have to find out what is causing it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Yes. This compressor is cutting on and off fairly rapidly.

And do these cycles coincide with the engine changes? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
