My car sounds like it is going to blow up! Very loud ticking and rattling and engine noise. Running extremely rough, does not want to "go". Help!

I don't know what you want us to do for you. Sounds like it's already too late. Have it towed to a reputable shop for diagnosis. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

This just happened today. My daughter drove the car to school, came home in tears because of the sounds the car is making. I drove it around the block to see what it was doing. Noises are nothing like I have ever heard from the car. It has never given me trouble with wanting to "go". Just wanted suggestions on what it could be.

Year, make, model, and engine size? Can you record the noise, upload it to a video hosting site, and then send us the link? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Car is a 2001 Ford Focus. Has a 4 cyl engine. Will try to get the noise posted. I guess it is more than a noise. When the car is started it almost sounds like a really loud racing go cart. It is a very loud sputtering and ticking sound and sounds like it does not want to stay running. When I tried to drive it, it didn't want to "go". Was hard to get it to go past 15 - 20 miles an hour, and had to push it to get even that. My daughter now tells me that lately when in idle, she has noticed the fan occasionally running to keep the temperature down. This is not all the time. The thermostat was replaced over the summer. Daughter's boyfriend says it could be a blown head gasket. Was wondering if this is what it sounds like.

If it is a 2.0L split port (P) engine, it could have dropped a valve seat. Your going to need to get it looked at. You shouldn't drive it or run the engine anymore. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
