Then I look at using a screw driver but there is a plastic covering. How do I remove the plastic cover? Would it help to spray wd 40 inside of it to loosen it up? Getting it open can be a real trick sometimes. It mostly depends on where the problem with the cable is. Sometimes you can access the cable a few feet before the latch. You may have a big problem. Have you tried having some just punch the hood lightly while you pulled the handle from the inside. Or is the handle pulling with no resistance or feeling of disengagement? If it is cable they are known to stretch. You may want to consider replacing the cable. You can disassemble it from the handle to see if you pull it a bit further if that works. Hopefully it didn't seize or break inside. You might have to fish a rod in to hit the release from underneath. You should be able to get at it if you remove the grill. I don't recall if that grill comes off from the outside.
