Fuel Injection Cleaner - HELP!

Hello, Well this is my first post and I need some help! I have an 88 VW Vanagon 2.1 Engine with about 140,000 miles. Normally she runs great and she has been very dependable. A few days ago I failed our state DEQ (engine emissions) by a few points. Well I decided to tune-up the engine with new spark plugs, rotor, cap, replace air filter, and changed the oil as well replaced the oil filter. I am planning to replace the fuel filter as soon as I get back into town and the local NAPA parts store. Well I decided to try and add some injection cleaner to a full tank of gas. After adding the fuel injection cleaner (Car Quest) I was unable to start the vehicle! Help, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks, Still Running (except not at this moment but hopefully soon with your help!)

Have you checked for spark, injector pulse, and fuel pressure? Fuel pressure should be around 36 psi. The bad part is that you need to install the fuel pressure test gauge in line and that requires special adapters. Injector pulse can be checked with a noid light or scope. Injector pulse can also be tested with an inductive tester. Spark can be checked with a simple spark tester or you can cut the ground strap off an old spark plug and use that as a tester. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
