Fuel injectors? Sign In

I just dropped a lot of money on a 2014 dodge caravan. Besides the cracked windshield, which the dealership is replacing, it seems like it's in stellar shape. Until last night, my husband was driving and all of the sudden the gas pedal stopped responding and the steering wheel "got weird". Luckily enough he had enough momentum to roll up to a red light. He shut the car off and started it back up again and when he stepped on the gas it shot forward then drove fine again. WTF is that all about. Should I take it back to the dealer? We got a 5 year service plan, will that cover it? What happened?

Of course you should take it back to the dealer if you have a warranty. It sounds like the electronic throttle may have gone into limp mode for some reason.

Is that super bad? We have take it out of town tomorrow and I'm afraid it might happen on the freeway. Should I cancel my trip before I take it in?

If that's actually what happens you definitely don't want to head out on a trip until it is fixed.

As I understood your problem, the engine was still running but would not respond to the throttle...right?

Then you need to get it into a shop. Every time the computer sees the error it will go into limp mode and it the fault become permanent, you are coming home on a tow truck, not to mention how dangerous it is to lose your throttle in traffic.

ACM - I feel your pain, the vodka may help the car/van can use it for washer fluid probably best.
Long time at finding the right thing the moves. NOPE - not yet. A mix of brilliant ideas just never get put into one unit all at the same time. Seems nuts and is but $18,000 bucks doesn't make a vehicle dependable or not nor 2 or 3 times that. "If it moves it will stop." Going is optional, stopping is going to happen no matter what it is or who makes it.

What matters now is quality of the dealer's choice of techs who will take this on and fix it. That alone scares me. They don't want warranty anything that was part of the profit of selling it to begin with whether optional or mandatory was built in.

Good luck. Treat vehicles as best you can both driving them and where parked. None like, cold, wet, heat, bumps, sun or dust to name a few things. For that matter neither do the most crude/basic bicycles!

Get a 100 mile towing "Auto Club" member ship to name one AAA or another depending on your exact area who is most available for help if just towing. New vehicle or not you can make most free using discounts thru them! You should NOT have to go where they want you to if in need just watch for that part.

Good luck again and get names of who solves it. If happy about it remember that for another issue there will always be more things later,

T

Re: Fuel injectors? Sign In

The machanic I took it to, took it to a Dodge machanic and both of them are saying there is nothing wrong with it. They did test drives and ran diagnostics and nothing came up so now they are trying to give the car back. I know what happened, it happened twice, and I know its dangerous. What am I supposed to do, take the car back and wait till I cause a 5 car pile up on I-5.
