my fuel pump in my 2004 chevy silverado 1500 4.3L v6 standard cab is going out. it wouldnt start , tested everything, no trouble codes , could not hear the whine at the gas cap when key turned on. beat on gas tank with mallet an it fired up. friend of mine that is a certified mechanic is going to help me change it. he said everything in my fuel system is probably just fine except the motor itself, because my gas gauge is operating properly. Autozone an many other places quoting $250 an he said that would be for everything , i dont need everything, i only need the pump itself. i think i found what i need here . *see images provided below link deleted Am i seeing things or just wrong? is this the part i seek an can save $210 from what autozone quoted me an told me was impossible... please someone check out what i have provided b4 i make a purchase. Also if u have ever heard good or bad things about link deleted now would be a good time to mention it. please an thank you, Stranded For Christmas

STOP posting links! If you had read the rules you would know you can't do that. I deleted your other 2 response that were just more links. Your car takes a complete assembly and it's not serviceable. Buy the whole unit and fix it right or you will be doing this all over again. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

i was just trying to make it conveinent for someone like yourself to look at what i was referring to in detail rather taking my word on describing it an taking a chance at miscommunication. Can u at least please tell me for sure whether or not that is indeed the part im after. *im aware u said don't do it that way, but i trust he knows what he is talking about but wont be around until monday, an need to get it shipping asap if thats the route we are going, i cant afford the whole unit at the moment its just impossible unfortunately*

This vehicle has a long history of fuel pump problems. It is a high pressure system and very pressure sensitive. No one ever attempts to piece meal one of these together. Replace the whole unit.

Sorry the cost is so high but it's worse than that! I suggest a whole unit from GM which will cost even more. I did do just a motor on another make of vehicle and NEVER again. It worked but scared me to death messing with anything electric sitting in gas. Point is don't try to save on the part, T

To expand on what HT told you..... It would be very hard to find a shop will to service just the pump, for the simple reason if it fails (and the odds are very high on this model) the shop would then be on the "hook" for the whole assembly. If you friend has never had one of these units apart, you may want to save time & money and spring for the assembly. While it's not brain surgery, there are small parts, o rings, hose connections and a lot of little plastic snaps that break very easily.... If this is his 1st one....he'll be learning on your dime....

An on a side note im appreciative for the extra info

Which pump brand are you going with? So far I have found only one manufacture that sells the pump kit. The kit only works with an OEM fuel pump module assembly that contains a 1 3/4" diameter pump motor with 1 outlet. If you don't have that, more than likely the pump kit won't work. If you have a robust fuel system (flex fuel) you better make sure that pump and it's components are designed for that. Another thing you should realize is that they made a modification to the connector and connector socket on top of the module because they were prone to getting hot and melting or causing high resistance which causes the pump to turn slower than normal or not at all. If you have that problem, your not going to solve your issue by replacing just the pump motor. Just something to consider since you have three mods/techs all giving you the same advice. Notice connector mod in pic: Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Either way works......I've done it both ways & find it easier to drop the tank. If he's done them before, then he knows what he's in for. I wouldn't do one in the shop unless I had to, even with the whole assembly is no guarantee of success but the odds are way better.... I've only had to do a couple of pump onlys because assemblies weren't available so I don't remember if they came with new connecters or not, the assemblies do, but if they don't you would be crazy not to get a new connecter & replace the old one....,.

The problem is you just can't replace the connector only. If you did find the connector got hot, you still should replace the sender, because the socket pins got hot too and will eventually cause resistance issues even with a new connector pigtail installed. That picture in the post above is a carter sender assembly for the OP's vehicle application with a connector mod. Even some of the replacement Delcos went that route. Ran into a few Delco senders with the connector kits in the box. I chunk the butt connectors and solder the connector pig tails. The butt connectors are environmental, but I trust soldering even more. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Oh I agree an assemby is the way to go......I personally think one of the reasons for the design change was to force techs to change the connecter. The old style is available (wells a few years ago they were). You are correct about the pins taking a hit if the connecter was overheated but the only way to change those would be with a new assembly & it's pretty clear to this point the OP aint gonna do that. The other end of it is those female pins in the connecter end, when they get overheated the pins loose their tension, get loose and don't set as tight creating even more resistance problems.... It's a bad deal but I would at least try to put a new connecter on it, if nothing else.......

You guys have brought out all the reasons not to attempt this but unfortunately this guy isn't listening to anything. His mind was made up well before he even posted here. He just wants us to help him screw up his car. Uncle Billy Bob knows better.
