I have a 1997 Pontiac Montana and I made the mistake of trying to remove the cruise control cable out of the control unit. I have reinstalled it but I noticed that it can be installed at different depths, I suppose for adjustment...? How do I know how deep the housing needs to be in the control unit? Thanks in advance.

See if this helps you. Jim Cruise Control Cable Adjuster - Disengage the cable adjuster lock by pulling the adjuster lock out by hand.
- The adjuster's internal spring will remove much of the cable slack. Remove as much cable slack as possible without moving the throttle lever.
- Engage the cable adjuster lock by pushing the adjuster lock in.
