Today the car started and stopped after half a minute and it doesnt start again. The sound is this: http://youtu.be/A3gPH7MV7ys IT cranks now. What can I try ? I watched a video that recommends spraying starting fluid to a hole near air filter Where is that on a galant?thanks

All "crank, no start" conditions are approached in the same way. Every engine requires certain functions to be able to run. Some of these functions rely on specific components to work and some components are part of more than one function so it is important to see the whole picture to be able to conclude anything about what may have failed. Also, these functions can ONLY be tested during the failure. Any other time and they will simply test good because the problem isn't present at the moment. If you approach this in any other way, you are merely guessing and that only serves to replace unnecessary parts and wastes money. Every engine requires spark, fuel and compression to run. That's what we have to look for. These are the basics that need to be tested and will give us the info required to isolate a cause. 1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester. If none found, check for power supply on the + terminal of the coil with the key on. 2) Test for injector pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If none found, check for power supply at one side of the injector with the key on. 3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off. 4) If all of these things check good, then you would need to do a complete compression test. Once you have determined which of these functions has dropped out, you will know which system is having the problem. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

The video doesnt help much. Those three steps are basic tests. If you have a question about specifics of one of the tests, shoot, and we will help as much as we can. Using starting fluid is risky, can do major damage and/or set things on fire. Using a fuel pressure gauge is a much safer and reliable way and provides much more information than attempting to run on starting fluid. ____________________________________________________ Willing to help, willing to learn... So then I will buy a fuel pressure tester to test as a first step Where do I plug that

That video just showed a slow cranking engine for me and no help really for your car. Testing fuel pressure: Most vehicles have a port on fuel rail about like testing tire pressure. Specific adaptors to fit specific vehicles or in line testing. Buy or perhaps rent. You say it isn't running at all so you would want to know if pressure is up to par. With this you want just KOEO (key on 'run position' engine off) but isn't running anyway for this. Pressure should hold. If that checks out move on to injector pulse with noid light Hey - starting fluid and messing with fuel at all has risks by nature. The advantage for me specifically with starting fluid is it still sprays when very cold vs some other tricks. Put intake parts back together if priming with anything. Always with caution but if you get a reaction from whatever priming you then can focus on FUEL DELIVERY as the issue first and not waste time on ignition problems. Follow instructions with specific tools or get qualified help. Note: If battery is weak and voltage drops too much while trying to crank not much is going to test well, T

Could a broken timing belt cause this cranking
