Sign In Anyone have any inkling what a head gasket repair on a 99 Grand Prix may cost? Here is the situation. I drove it to work on Friday-no problems. All of a sudden when I left work it started idling funny and the check engine light went on and it was running funny-not sure what the problem was. Sort of idling/lurching-did not feel right. I was driving it on Saturday and noticed the temperatue gauge going up-I stopped it and had it towed since I did not want to overheat the engine. I took it to my shop and he said the head gasket needs replaced-he said I must have ran it hot. I get the oil changed every 3k miles, and just had the fluids check last week (they check all my fluids at the oil change place). They said on the report my coolant was full. I am not sure how it could have ran hot-very puzzling. Anyone have any inkling as to what may have happened and the approximate cost of repair????????? Sign In One side is about 8.5 flat rate hours. Which means multiply your local area rate times 8.5 and that will give you a general idea of the labor cost. Parts are more than 140$. If both heads are done the labor time is about 11.5 flat rate hours. Hope this helps you some.
