Heater core Sign In

Hello Everybody!
I have a Mitsubishi lancer 1998 sedan.
The heater core looks to be already bypassed and yet my car is leaking inside.
Iv'e looked online and can't find any other reason why the car would be leaking and I mean really leaking like flooding my car to the point where I came back after three weeks and a colony of mold infiltrated my car :(

I took photos ( 3 photos attached ) of the bypass and the passenger side as well.

Any suggestions? I would really appreciate the help :)

Re: Heater core Sign In

? First I'd pressure up just heater core to verify. That doesn't look like mold and a coolant mix wouldn't support mold so it's rust looking to me. Make sure but bet it the core is wasted badly, possibly from using straight water but can for any reason.

^^^^ Direct pic may not show?

Replacement of core is almost always a real fussy job. So is totally cleaning all that up so there's no moisture left - carpet out would be best.

Parts not so bad just lots of time, labor and risks or breaking small parts could be real hard to fix or replace if bad enough.

At a glance this is a commitment for this car and would think about if you should at all or change out cars for another - your call as it looks like rust to me bad enough that inside engine could be just as bad?

Re: Heater core Sign In

If the heater core is already bypassed, then it can only be either condensation not draining from the AC or rainwater leaking into the car.

The place where that is leaking tends to point to a rainwater leak.

Re: Heater core Sign In

Sorry this is so wide - I can't touch
the pics off the web of this.

Yes - could be non engine coolant and suggested
testing core alone with pressure to rule out
plain water from another source that Hammer Time
just suggested.

Still and would plan on removing seats and carpet OUT
for this to totally dry out when fixed as it really wont
dry enough on its own well.

Any which way it's going to be some serious
work,

T
