Hello, I need some help if someone could, please. Here's the situation. I drive a 2008 Cobalt, 2.2 L ecotec engine. It has about 93,000 km on it. I have intermediate vehicle skills, but would not consider myself an expert by any means (which is why I am here!). Last Saturday (August 2nd) my MIL came on and the coolant fan fuse had blown. I replaced the fuse and picked up a couple extra. For a few days it was good, then it came on again and the fuse had blown. It blew when the coolant temp was in the 95-100 range (normal operating temperature is 89 degrees C). I replaced it again and this time also replaced the fan relay (number 2572). The problem persisted, with the coolant running hot. This past Saturday (August 9th) I replaced the rad fan with a brand new one from dealer. It seemed to work, I drove it for an hour with no problems. No lights, no indicators, and 89^C coolant temp the entire time (or less). Today, Monday the 11th, my coolant hit 100 degrees after I got off the highway, however now the fuse is not blowing. When I put the ignition key in first stop the MIL comes on, but it goes out when I start the vehicle. Thoughts? Any input or feedback is appreciated! Thank you. edit - I have the codes on my desk at home, I will post them tonight.

Sorry, let me elaborate a bit - when I got off the highway this morning the coolant was rising, and was at 102 C when the vehicle was stopped. I stopped the car at a gas station, let it sit for 5 minutes, then fully started the vehicle again. The MIL came on while under power. This time, no fuse was blown though. The temperature reading promptly dropped to 95 C, but I had not heard the rad fan running while parked. After about two hours I drove it back to the office from a job site, again on the highway. The coolant temperature was again rising and at 98 C when I stopped the vehicle. I repeated my test as before, putting the key at first stop (MIL was on) and starting it (this time MIL was off). While safely at the office, I decided to see if I could replicate the issue. I tried putting the key in first stop a few more times. The MIL comes on at first ignition stop (electronics on, but ignition not started) but then goes out when engine starts (except as in the case noted above). To be clear then - MIL comes on at ignition first stop, goes out when car is running (but has also stayed on), and engine coolant is running hot. My question is what could be causing this behaviour?

I don't think you have any problem at all with temp. Do you have a good scanner ? try to scan for codes- free at many places- BUT might have to look in HISTORY or PENDING. anyway 100c is not very high... for those following thats 212F... allowing for those very inaccurate gauges I do not see a problem BUT post codes - the vehicle is STOCK no remote starter, different thermostat, ?

It's completely stock, with automatic transmission. Already had the juice replaced (overcautious nature from me). I turned it on a few minutes ago and again same behaviour - turn key to first ignition stop, all system lights come on, MIL remains on. Turn it on, MIL goes out. The fan is running. Tonight after work I am going to take it for a drive and see if I can get it to heat up again, and see if the fan is still running. I would just like to know why the MIL is acting up. Do you guys know which places/companies I can take it in Canada (Toronto, ON specifically) that can give you a computer reading for free? I know some do. If I have a code reading it will help (I have the old ones from Aug 2nd on my desk at home).
