Honda city - heat and speed

Hi everybody, I have a 2004, 1.5l, Honda city. My country is quite hot, about 40-50C (110-120F) at noon. So the AC has to be ON. However, turning it on cause my car to vibrate and slow down. I know the ac takes a few horses out of my car, but I think a loss of 20km/h is more than a few. So, does this mean that there is a problem with my cooling system? Should I try to install another fan, if possible, to reduce the load on my current one? All suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

What are the high and low side ac pressure readings when it is bogging the engine down? Has there been any work done recently before you noticed this problem? Is the system charged to the correct weight? Does the engine overheat? Do the cooling fan(s) operate when the ac is turned on? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I didn't do any AC pressure readings to be honest. All I know is that the ac is very cool. I've faced this problem since I've got the car from a traveling friend. So I dont know about any work that might have caused this. The engine doesn't overheat. Yes, it's just 1 fan and it operates.

Operating an AC compressor always takes power away. Your 1.5 just doesn't have any extra to spare. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

So is there a way to reduce the speed loss I'm facing?

That is hot sport! Yes A/C takes power away but most cars calculate that. Your temps are what I would say extreme and you should pay careful attention to noises from compressor. It's working hard! If practical for your driving situation you could add a cut out such that compressor would quit for the moments of peak needs for power. I doubt that was an option for this car new but a good A/C tech should be able to add one if all else is right with the system it would be automatic based on load on the engine or just shut it down for the time you need more power manually. I know, it doesn't take long for car to get hot inside. Good luck. Just know compressor is in fact working harder and higher temps. Don't overheat the engine or you could end up walking in that heat!
