Hyundai I20 won't engage 1st gear Sign In

Afternoon All.

In September I bought a new I20 from a Hyundai dealer in London (UK), and have since put less than 1000 miles on the clock (approx 900 at the time of writing). The car has had absolutely no accidents/issues/near misses and to my eye is in perfect condition.

In the last month I have noticed that on a few occasions, the car has failed to engage first gear from neutral whilst stationary. The car has then been okay if I go into second, and then into first gear. Each time, this has happened at a red light, with the engine idling.

Is this something that anybody has seen before? - As the car is brand new I did not expect to have any sort of issue this early (I didn't expect any issues at all until at least 2 years / 30,000 miles). I have contacted Hyundai customer services and they have essentially said "go and take it into a hyundai service center, but if they don't find any manufacturing errors then I have to pay diagnostics and repairs. This seems unreasonable to be given the vehicles age and mileage.

Any thoughts well received!

Tom

900 miles just take it back it's covered and should NOT be doing that. Could be a fault with the hydraulic clutch or however disengaged first and reverse are the two gears that really object but not the point it's covered so do as they said and take it back,

Yes, address this question to your dealer.

That statement is meant to cover "customer abuse"....Meaning if you take it in and it's obvious you've been doing burn outs, pop a wheelies, (I'd like to see that with a FWD car) etc. and caused damage, the warranty is void..

If you've been driving it like rational human being and kept up on the maintenance I can't forsee a problem.....Hyundia is actually pretty good with warranties over here.... Usually new buyers get a 10yr/100k warranty...
