I NEED MAD HELP!!!!!!!! Sign In

I just bought a new distributor for my 1981 Ford F150. I has the original stock V6 motor in it. Well, I got everything off the motor and ready to be worked on just fine. I got the new distributor ordered and received it. I got it all ready to go in except for the one problem spot. I am having problems with the distributor cam on the base of the distributor. I got it off of the old one, but I can not get it to lock into place on the new one. If any one has clue how to do this or can help me in any way, please reply and let me know. Heck, ya'll can send me a private message, as long as it's goin to help me, I'm good to go.

What engine size are we talking here because I don’t remember a V6 in a F150 back then but just because I don’t remember doesn’t mean there wasn’t?
I also cannot picture what this “cam” you’re talking about is; is it an eccentric that would actuate the fuel pump?
Is there a way you could post a couple of pictures of this cam and distributor?
Sorry for the lack of help here but you’ve got me curious.

I don't recall any V6 in the early 80s full size ford trucks either. Should have been I think a 300 straight six or the 5.0 V8 (302) and perhaps a 351 available.

No matter. I don't remember a cam on the distributors either. There's a gear at the bottom of the shaft and a retaining bushing held in by a roll pin. Those don't like to move or slide up and down on any sludge or flaws in the dist. shaft.

It's a lot easier to get the whole distributor than to spend so much time on cleaning up that shaft,
