I notice dark drops leaking from the rear of my 2007 pontiac torrent Sign In

I notice dark drops leaking from the rear of my vehicle when parked over night...between the rear wheels closer to the drivers side. what could this be? The liquid is very dark. I have searched online but can't find any answers.2007 pontiac torrent145000kmAWD
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Being AWD it could be rear differential fluid but it could also be brake fluid from a rusted out line. It definitely needs to be check and resolved before something more serious develops.

It's a lot cheaper to fix a differential leak than to replace a whole differential because it ran low on oil.

I shouldn't have to explain what will happen if you run out of brake fluid.

Is the spot still there? Brake fluid would wash off with water the gear oil not so fast. Both important NOW if brake you'll find it low at reservoir - barely matters find out and fix it right now, too important.
Other: Could it be from another car? Just asking,

Thank you so much for the response. My brake fluid is not low so I think I can rule that out. The rear differential looks to be coated in fluid.so either a new gasket or Maybe a new pinion seal? THANK YOU! I tried uploading pictures I was able to take but the system says it does not accept my file type even though they are just .jpg files.

Usually when there is that much fluid leaking out of the pinion or the output shafts, it means something is extremely worn beyond just the seal.

Not sure where or what item yet? Clean them all off with degreaser and water or dry with some solvent and paper towels you can toss. It will come back, make sure it's properly full enough.
Seals for anything possible are as Hammer said usually the result of a problem not the cause such as worn shaft or "play" that beat up the seals, some you can't fix.
A diff. pan gasket type of leak. Not often but possible. Brand of item again not really the reason I've seen damage from backing into things, rust and bent from hoisting - that's it for me otherwise never.
The leak can't be ignored so find it hope whatever you find is fixable, either way you have to know,

Thank you all for the replies. It turns out it was a passenger side rear axle seal that needed replacing. Was confused because the drip was on the drivers side off the rear differential.... it was running down the axle to that area which made me think the leak was there.
