I have a 2007 Toyota Yaris 3 Door with 78,000 miles on it. The car was having a compression issue in cylinder #2. It has 45 PSI and under a wet test 55 PSI. I'm assuming there's a bent head gasket valve. I believe the damage was done when the car over reved. The dealership ran a general diagnostic and gave me that information. They want $1,050.00 to find the source of the issue or I could engine swap for 3,300. I was thinking of finding a 3rd party mechanic and having them replace the valve, seeing as they run for about 40-100 online and if it's a piston ring those run generally the same price. Labor of course is what makes the repair expensive. Any advice is nice and the car aside from that is mechanically sound, never breaks down or anything.

No, that's not how it works. That engine will require a lot more parts than just a single valve. You have a few hundred dollars in gaskets alone. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

You should run a cylinder leak down test to see if it is a valve problem or ring issue. If it is just a valve problem, all you have to do is rip the head off and send it down to the machine shop. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
