Jetta 2000 rack and pinion replacement Sign In

Good day, I just recently replaced my power steering pump on my Jetta 2000. it's a 2.0 Liter gasoline, long story short I have a leak coming from the boot and I require to replace the rack and pinion. I contacted a few parts places and basically I have two options, with variable ratio or without. I called VW to clarify and they just basically gave me a part number and said they are unable to tell from the part number. The part number is 1J1422075P which i do not intend to buy it from VW, the ones i found from parts stores are less than one half of the price. Pls advise if you have any information on how to identify whether I need one with the variable ratio or without. Thank you in advance Smile

They probably can't tell from the part number but they should be able to tell from the VIN#

Thank you Hammer Time for taking in the time to reply. VW gave me this part number (sold by VW) after I gave them the VIN number for the vehicle. Unsure

I just took 5 minutes to Google the part number and it comes up as for Sport suspension, also called limited steering lift mechanism.

When I look up the steering gear for that car, it only shows one with no options. I don't know why there is any question here.

You cannot post links here.

All you have to do is Google the part number and you will find dozens of them.

Those parts you are looking at are cheap junk.

Re: Jetta 2000 rack and pinion replacement Sign In

My apologies. Please forget about the part number. I am only looking for the rack and pinion and not the whole steering gear which VW sells. If I search for rack and pinion for 2000 Jetta, it comes with two options - and that is what my question is... which one do I need for my car. Thank you for your time, if anyone else has any information please advise... It is cold where I live, I am not rich to pay over $1000 bucks and anyone with advise would be much appreciated. Thank you

A Rack and Pinion and a steering gear are the exact same part. Some come with outer tie rod ends and some don't.

I can't tell you what part your car takes and neither can anyone else. The legitimate parts suppliers don't need to ask that question because they are selling direct fit parts, not rebuilt units designed to fit many different applications.

Don't drive a car like that if you can't afford the repairs.

I was looking for an advice on an auto part, not to be lectured on life.

Advice ........... lecture............. what's the difference?

If you want to complain that you can't afford to repair the car correctly, I'm going to tell you that you shouldn't be driving the car.
