Kia Soul starter replacement issues! Sign In

Okay so my car is a 2010 Kia soul 2.0 engine and it’s a manual transmission.
OK, so here’s the backstory. I drove with my car having starter problems for like six months before it finally went out so I ordered a new starter from Amazon and then it arrived and I had somebody put it in and it made way louder sounds than before when the starter was struggling I’ve never even heard the sound. It sounded horrible and only did it when engaging and then it would start up and I drove like that for about a week and then on the freeway it started having like heart palpitations turns out every one of my spark plugs need replaced and wires and coil packs so we did that and then I got on the freeway drove to my destination, which was about 30 minutes away and all of a sudden every time I turn off my car it won’t start again, unless it is being pushed and popping the clutch. So I ordered another starter from Amazon and it will not start. It will not engage. I don’t know what the hell the problem is. This is becoming way too much stress because this car actually isn’t very difficult to get to the starter so I’m not sure if these guys are missing something But when we took out the first replacement starter the teeth on it are just major damaged worse than the first one the one that went bad the original starter doesn’t even have shredded teeth on it. What is the problem here and actually those two starters I ordered don’t look identical to the original starter But pretty close to identical.

Well, this is going to be a lesson learned. You continued to drive the car with a grinding starter for 6 months. During that period you likely destroyed the flywheel too. Now instead of a simple starter replacement, you need the transmission removed and the flywheel replaced.
