Lack of idiot light for temperature Sign In

I have a 2020 Nissan Pathfinder. I was out of town last week, and my wife called saying that it was acting sluggish, wouldn't accelerate, and the check engine light was on. While she was talking to me, I got an email from Nissan Connect, essentially saying "Hey! We noticed your engine light is on for an emissions issue (misfire in #3). Check your gas cap, and if the light stays on, visit your Nissan dealer." The email said NOTHING about high temperature.

She sent me a picture of the dashboard, and the engine temperature gauge was pegged as hot as it would go. I had her pull over, had it towed to the dealer, and they found a small hole in the bottom of the radiator, and burned ignition wires to #3. Since it was a road hazard, none of it was covered by the warranty even though the car has only 10k miles on it.

My question: WHY IS THERE NO IDIOT LIGHT for the temperature? My wife is smart and observant, and if she had seen a red light, she knows to stop immediately. But I don't expect her to constantly watch the temperature gauge.

Is it only Nissan that removed this critical indicator, or have all manufacturers done this? This seems like a major issue to me.

I guess that's something you should be addressing with Nissan. Some cars have been made with only temp gauges for the past 75 years. It's nothing new.
