Leak - water pump? urgent reply needed. Sign In

Well xmas day my 96 isuzu bighorn 3.1td started pouring out coolant from underneath the crank pulley.

Seemed to be the waterpump as myself and family members thought, we have very basic knowledge of vehicles.

So I buy a replacement, and get to pulling it out.
It looks fine to my untrained eye.

All the fins are intact, gasket looks good. There is a tiny bearing noise when spinning it though.

Should I install the new pump now or is there something else I should look at behind the timing cover before closing it all up?

The fins don't mean anything. The seals go bad and it leaks through a weep hole under the pulley. Look for a coolant stain coming out of that hole. If it has any bearing growl at all, that's reason enough to change it.

The weep hole on the water pump itself is stained up with coolant, so is under the crank pulley.

Thanks for the fast reply, I'll get to installing now. Hope it all works as I'm meant to be driving just under 200km tomorrow.
