Hello all,

I was driving on the freeway with the air conditioning/climate control off. I turned it on and almost immediately afterwards a whitish-grey smoke/vapor began coming out from under the hood. A symbol came up for just a few moments when this began and I'm pretty sure it was this low coolant symbol:

I turned off the A/C kept driving because I was on a bridge and couldn't pull over. There was less smoke/vapor coming out after about 3 minutes and no warning symbols so I just continued the last few miles home. After parking the car, the smoke/vapor kept coming out for another 10-15 minutes and then it stopped. Now there is a puddle of greenish liquid that has leaked out drop-by-drop from the bottom of the car under the hood area.

I don't know if turning on and off the A/C had anything to do with it; maybe it was just a coincidence. I know very little about cars. Is what has leaked engine coolant? Is the car safe to drive the <5 miles to the shop or should it be towed?

Thanks.

You have a coolant leak. You need to have the cooling system pressure tested to locate the source of the leak.

Might want to check your coolant level before driving it anymore. Towing it, if your not sure, is a safe move. The more you push it, the greater chance you have of overheating the engine and causing major engine damage.

coolant is under the same pressure regardless of hvac position. if a/c or defrost was turned on and a/c compressor kicked in..... a lot of r134 has dye. something to look into as well.
