Lesabre AC

I got a 1997 lesabre limited with climate control switch. I know that the temperature sensor which feeds the digital temperature reading is what determines if the AC Compressor comes on. Once the temperature is high enough a "request compressor" signal is generate. The climate control is wired to the controller that has the vacuum lines going to it. The contoller sends a electrical signal which I believe is just a 12 volts to the ecm and then the computer checks the sensors that determine if the 123a pressure is not too low or not too high and if the pressure is ok the compressor relay will allow the power to run the compressor. My Climate control switch is not turning on the compressor. I was going to get another one but I was told that this problem could also be created if a module mounted behind the glove compartment is bad. I know there are temperature sensors but I was not aware of anything other than the switch that can be the problem. Does as anybody know if there is a module behind the dash board that also has something to do with the request compressor signal. I will also be working on the controller. The vacuum lines are leaking where it attaches to the controller. I will see if I can use hylamar to seal the nipples. I fixed the nipple connectors on a lesabre custom using hylamar. If not I will reroute the vacuum lines directly into the connections inside and bypass the nipples on the outside of the controller box. Evidently these nipples get hot and distort over time and start leaking. I had another lesabre with the same problem. I fixed it by bypassing them too. Does anybody know if the controller could also be malfuncting in such a way that would prevent the request compressor signal from getting to the ecm.

some quick thoughts might want to first scan for codes, some issues may inhibit AC command. Might want to know AC static pressure A low reading will inhibit command. Check wiring is the relay getting a command and not closing. Is wire relay to compressor open?

Here are your compressor controls You need to start out with a scan tool and look at the pressure reading to see if the PCM is seeing the correct pressure. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I got the descriptions of items for sale on ebay: 95 96 97 98 99 BUICK LESABRE & RIVIERA HEATER CONTROL SWITCH MODULE #16214484 This is the switch that has the digital temperature readout and the switches necessary on the dash to set the temperature for turning on the compressor. Is this hooked up to the ac controller The schematic HT provided does not show the control switch module #16214484. I believe it should this be attached in the wiring harness to the programmers so the temperature can determine when the programmer sends the "request compressor" signal to the ecm via wire #62 C1? In the Schematic do one of the imput wires from the programmer attach to the programmer? I am trying to determine if that wire ever sends a signal to turn on compress to the the programmer so it can send it on to the ecm. Heater & AC Programmer fits 1995-1999 Buick LeSabre Park Avenue ACDELCO OE SERV #16258434 I've already checked the pressures and the relay. I suspect this switch is bad. I've had the compressor come on by hotwiring the clutch relay. The AC cools if the compressor will come on. It seems the ecm must not be receiving the command on the 62 ecm wire connector. So, the question is why is it not receiving the signal. Is there anyway to test the switch #16214484 to determine if it is sending the required signal to the progrmmer to get it to send the request compessor switch. Please advise if I will need special scanners. If I need that I will have to take it to a ac shop. I was just trying to fix it myself if possible. Those ac shops can get to be expensive.

If you're not going to follow our advice, we won't bother giving it. I said you need to find out what the pressure sensor is telling the PCM. Stop worrying about ambient sensors. If it isn't in that diagram, it doesn't control the compressor.
