MPG on a 80s 1 ton 460 Ford???

You would be better off investing the $$$ you were gonna spend on a smaller newer vehicle

Simply put, to lessen HP, just don't push the gas pedal as farWink This type of truck wasn't meant to be easy on fuel but to handle tough jobs. Just have it tuned up and running it's best is really the best you'll do with it. If it's always more HD and power than you need you should consider a different truck completely,

Re: MID 80'S FORD F350 Sign In

thanks for you comment. I have owned the truck for many years now and it is running very well with only 50000 miles. no need for a tune up.
i understand that this truck was built to be a work horse and power was a bigger part of the design than economy. needless to say with gas prices only going up i am going to try to get more mpg out of it. the truck is not driven much but is a part of the family. nothing like driving a doolie around.
i wonder if ford motor company would be any help.

This is an excellent engine - no compremises. There are no tricks to make it suddenly fuel efficient except not to drive it and when you want to just take it easy. It sure would use more if you worked it harder than needed.

It's a unique situation for you. The truck is what it is and would be needed if fuel was $12 or more bucks a gallon for what it can do - the issue really is you don't seem to need what it can do but just want it which I understand,
