Mystery part fell out of my car Sign In

After I filled up at the gas station, I started my car and immediately heard a metal clanging noise. I got out and found a metal disc the size of my palm on the ground, as well as a couple of small discs/washers. I was able to drive the next few miles to work without any issues.

Also, my dash warning lights for the battery and brake are now lit. What happened??!!

details:
2000 Infiniti I-30
100,000 miles
automatic transmission

Thanks,
Dave

You just had an idler pulley for the belt fall off which made you lose the belt. Get it repaired ASAP.

Thanks! My car still operates fine. Is it safe to drive the two miles to my garage or would that risk further damage? What's the worst case scenario if I continue driving it?

I don't know what else that belt drove so I can't really say. If it drives the water pump, then definitely no. You battery is going to go dead pretty soon if you run it.
