2017 Nissan Altima SE 2.5L 4cyl. I can run errands and the car will start everytime. But 50% of the time it has to be jump started after a commute to work. Battery tests ok and my charger runs for less than 5 minutes before turning off at 100% charged. TIA for any suggestions

You need to do the obvious. Start out by removing and cleaning the battery cable ends Have the battery tested first and once you have a known good battery, have the charging system tested. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I've been fixing my own cars for 20+ years and if I hadn't done the obvious I wouldn't be posting here. I've had the battery tested twice and "its good". I've get 14.1 volts at the battery after starting. Many years ago I would have suspected the voltage regulator but those have been internal for a long time now. Do alternators still have brushes these days? Could that be the problem.

Hammer, first off thank you for replying. I've had more than one car in my life so can we cut out the sarcasm? I know tech has changed and I was hoping that someone better versed in these changes would be able to explain why this may be occurring. In my experience if a car starts and runs for a one hour commute the alternator is working. But this first happened when trying to start the car immediately after parking it. And it continues to be intermittent after sitting for 8 hours and trying to get home. It starts every morning when leaving for work but it's 50/50 whether it will start when I leave to come home.

OK smart guy. This car is equipped with an external battery current sensor and battery temperature sensor. The charging system is tied into the IPDM (Intelligent Power Distribution Module) and all charging decisions are made by the PCM and all communications are done through digital data lines so let me know how you resolve all this in your driveway.
