Needs new tie rods? Sign In

I just bought a 2000 Toyota Tundra 4x4 with 62,000 miles. I've driven it about 200 miles this weekend, and I've noticed a steering problem.

The truck pulls slightly to the left, but only occasionally. In addition, when driving in reverse, if you make a sharp turn (left or right) the steering wheel wants to keep going in the direction of the turn instead of returning to the center position. This happens only in reverse.

What could cause this? Are these symptoms of a bad tie rod? Do I just need an alignment?

Thanks very much for the help!

For sure make sure the front end parts are safe!!

The steering will only "center" by itself in forward which is "caster" that can be adjusted on many vehicles.

Example: A bicycle has extreme caster for forward but if you ever even rolled one backwards the front wheel would go crooked and that is normal.

Worn out tie rod ends would not cause this but you should know they are good, T
