Newbie needs help!

Hi, I am starting to tinker around with a 2001 Audi A4 Q 2.8L. I am really not an experienced with cars, but am mechanically able. Anyway, it appears that I need to replace an alternator. The battery measure 12.5V no load and then 11.4V when the car is running. I just have a simple question: am I on the right path with the alternator or is there something else I should check before investing the time and money into that job? The above battery test is pretty much all I have done diagnostically. Thank you.

You're probably on the right track as long as all the fuses and fusible links are good. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
