Nissan Murano 05 - Exhaust Repair Question Sign In

Here is a link to pictures of the problem with the exhaust on my Nissan Murano 2005.
https://picasaweb.google.com/...&feat=directlink

Basically the pipe just behind the resonator has disconnected / or broken away from the rest of the exhaust system right at the clamp that connects them. There is some rusting throughout the system and looks to be the cause of the problem (as I assume most exhaust systems of 6 years might have?)

Just trying to get a feel for what needs to repaired in this instance. I don't really have a trusted mechanic yet where I live, so I just want to have a handle on what everything entails before going to a shop.

Can the pipe simply be reconnected since it happened at the clamp joint or will the resonator have to be replaced?

Is this something you could do at home? Or best to be done by a mechanic?

Thanks so much for your help and please let me know if you need any further information.

You have two options. If the metal around the flange isn't eaten all the way through, you can weld the pipe back onto the flange.

If the pipe and flange aren't weldable, you can replace that component. I am not sure, but in your picture it looks like the pipe that broke off the flange goes to the muffler. Can't tell because the picture is too close up.

You just need to replace the component. The pipe was rotten enough to break off, it just need to be replaced. It looks like it's part of the muffler. take it to an exhaust shop and get it evaluated.
