Oil Weight??????????????

My 3.0 Taurus calls for 5W20 oil. I have been using Motorcraft synthetic blend and changing the oil every 3,000 miles. For only a couple bucks more for a 5 quart container, I can buy Super Tech full synthetic oil. However, it does not come in the 5W20 weight. I've had some people tell me it is ok to use 5W30 instead of 5W20. Would I be better off to use 5W30 Super Tech Synthetic or stick with the Motorcraft 5W20 synthetic blend?

If under a warranty go with exactly what the owner's manual says. I have found a Lincoln that clearly stated to use exactly 5W-20 and only their oil filter or warranty could be void!! That shocked me! The real difference is that the narrower range the less additives to make its behavoir like both #s. That's not really a problem except that the additives don't resist sludge as well as the oil itself. I use 10W-30 the most as it is more oil than additives than 10W-40. There could be a minute fuel savings in the 5W-20. That could all be urban lore but that is what I was taught when I was in school for automotives -- cough, cough, let's just say a long time ago. I don't really think there's a huge difference in the two. Haven't seen 5W-20 in fully synthetic except AMSOIL (a site sponsor). Interesting but as I recall Mobil 1 only sold 5W-20 when it was first introduced in shiny chrome real metal cans! T
