Oil gauge erratic Sign In

I have a 93 Buick Park avenue with 208k miles on it. When my car is idling like at a red light the oil pressure gauge will jump around erratically then goes back to normal. My oil on the dipstick is normal and my car temperature is normal as well. Also there is no strange noise coming from the engine can anyone help me please?

Re: Oil gauge erratic Sign In

It's probably correctly reading and a serious warning.
I take it you mean it that it does that idling and quits it when you go again - is that it? It's low on "pressure" full of oil or not.
Get it checked with a gauge not the car's to verify and question the oil that you use and maybe up the viscosity depends on where and how the car is used at what temps too. It's a warning of engine wear plus 208k on it is up there despite good per year you and prior owners have to had changed oil on a schedule of time not just miles.
Verify it's really erratic like that first,

Tom's advice is correct however it may be cheaper and easier to simply replace the pressure sender for the gauge instead of using a manual gauge. There is a good chance the electric sender has gone bad.

They aren't very expensive and pretty easy to change.
