My left windshield wiper doesn't work at all, but the right one is fine. One guy told me that it has to be a fuse and couldn't be the motor, another guy told me it couldn't be the fuse it has to be the motor. Does anybody that KNOWS what they're talking about have any idea which it is?

Crystal Ball is down on what the heck this thing is sport. Strong guessing it's a splined arm to a splined stud at cowl is stripped out. Fix or replace both as needed making sure the mechanism that makes it turn is in fact connected and working. OMG - it's NOT a fuse on one side! T

You definitely need to stop listening to those guys. They have no clue. The two wipers are connected together by metal, mechanical linkage. Electrical has nothing to do with it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Either the wiper transmission linkage popped off or the wiper arm nut is loose. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Okay, I tried turning the nut and that makes it go up and down as though it were working, so I don't think it is loose. So the next step would be to take off the black thing so I can see where the wire things connected to it go and make sure they are connected?

You have already been told, the wiring has nothing to do with this issue. You need to removed the cowl cover and inspect the linkage. You were also asked to post the year, make, and model of the vehicle. Make sure your next post includes that.

That is what I was asking, sorry I don't know the correct terminology. And it is a Pontiac Grand Am, 2005 I believe.

That is what I was asking, sorry I don't know the terminology. I Googled "Cowl Cover" and see that is the black thing I was asking about and the wire things that I was talking about are what you call "linkage." As for the info, it is a Pontiac Grand Am, 2005 I believe. Sorry I don't know much of anything about any of this and thanks for your help everyone.

This picture shows the metal bars that connect the left and right wiper pivots.

Quote back a few ">Okay, I tried turning the nut and that makes it go up and down as though it were working<" GM didn't use that type or frequently that I know of. Take the dang whole arm OFF the thing noting it's "PARK" or home position when it should be OFF, OK? Different ways they come off don't make me guess I won't know it's obvious when seen. Don't pry up on the glass of a windshield! You will bust it if it's close or right there. Whatever you tightened I'm confused you said it goes up and down like it was working but don't know what you meant? Just look at usually a round spindle that turns the wiper arm at its base for splines and possibly a key so it can't be put on in the wrong position have to look the best of info I won't find that detail. Most are fine toothed splines and strip out the arm's base that connects there first usually from being forced or a maybe not put on properly? This part is obvious mechanical stuff no electrics if one works. Hey - understand by username you don't want to pay for what could be a freebie to tell you or show you just what to do and go get. This is only a nightmare if all bent up and broken for some other reason IMO, T
