P0505 (Sometimes)

This is on a 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder (2.4 Non-Turbo) and has 133K on it. I get the error P0505 when I hook it up, and I know it's the IAC. But, I'm not completely sure whether it's bad or just dirty. The exact problem I am having it (sometimes) stalls whenever I idle, like at stop signs, red lights and going very slow on turns. If it does it 1 time, it does it every single time after that until I stop somewhere and turn off the car and wait a while... Then if it doesn't do it after I turn the car on it's fine until other drive when it starts again. I'm being kinda cheap here, as the part is $320 dollars and I don't have that much money to spend, but will if I have to. I bought some Throttle Body cleaner (sensor safe) is it possible that the IAC being dirty is making the stalling/code to happen? Thanks for the help in advance!

Why don't you clean it and find out? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Is there anything special I need to do when cleaning it?

First eliminate all vacuum or air leaks in the system. You may have a bad IAC ( idle air control) but try cleaning the throttle body first. Remove the intake snorkel, have someone hold the throttle wide open for you and scrub the back side of the throttle plate and surrounding bore with an old tooth brush and some carb cleaner. Be sure to spray some into the small holes next to the throttle plate.
