NEWBIE TO THE FORUM; I JUST BOUGHT MY FIRST OLD TRUCK, A 1987 GMC HIGH SIERRA WITH A 350, A/T, A/C, 4X4 AND A FEW ISSUES. THE MAJOR ONE AT THIS TIME IS THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER DISCONNECTED THE P/S PUMP AS THE MOUNTING BRACKET BROKE. I GOT A PUMP WITH BRACKET AT THE JUNKYARD FROM AN IDENTICAL TRUCK, BUT I CAN'T GET THE PULLEYS TO LINE UP. NO ADJUSTMENT BRACKET CAME WITH THE TRUCK AND THE ONE I BOUGHT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE RIGHT. ALSO, THE NEW BELT I BOUGHT FOR IT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE LONG ENOUGH. I HAVE A PROBLEM AND I NEED HELP. THANKS, DON.

You are going to need help from the junkyard. Trucks especially had more differences in the same engine than most of the cars. Yours may have had something like HD charging system or the donor truck some feature that changed it all. If either didn't come with A/C when new that will change a lot of things. Back then there was also Calif. emissions which changed some configurations. Do you have the old broken part? That would help now. I also question the judgement of deleting PS as a way out for a broken braket. The truck was not available without PS TMK and would not be very good without it as you surely know. Can you go to the junkyard with this truck now and match things up? That would be best, T

Thanks for the response; the Junkyard is too far away and as you know steering this thing the way it is, is dangerous. I had to flat bed it to get it home. I plan to go back to the yard and look though some more trucks. I'm trying to contact the seller to get more info from him, but he hasn't been available. Parts stores do not carry the brackets and as you said, there seems to be many options.

An idea that may help: This engine is no doubt the most popular custom use engine that ever happened. the fit them for marine use, hot rods, and even Yamaha buys that block to make an engine for marine use. By that you will find an amazing amount of non factory brakets and crap to rig on almost anything to that motor. If you want it in chrome they have that too. If you have a store that caters to the custom and hot rod stuff they might have tons of answers for you. Good luck, T

Thanks again; I'm only about 3/8 of an inch off and I was thinking of shimming the brackets out, but I know there is a lot of torque when that thing is spinning and I'm not sure if it will hold. Another thought I had was to move the pulley on the pump out. ??? I'm going to a GMC Dealer and see what they have for my VIN number, also.
