Passing Gear-Downshifting of Transmission Sign In

When I am driving around 35-40 mph I try to press on the pedal for the transmission to downshift but it doesn't do so. How can I remedy this situation?

Re: Passing Gear-Downshifting of Transmission Sign In

My vehicle is a 1994 Buick LeSabre V6-231 3.8L VIN L SFI. How can I tell if it is a three or four speed transmission? I have had this happen before about two years ago. Some sensors were replaced by an auto shop. Thanks for your help.

I guess at this point it doesn’t really matter whether it’s a three or four speed but have a look at your shifter; how many forward gear positions does it show?
As for the downshift it is controlled by the PCM (computer) and you may need to have it scanned for codes and data. The PCM looks at a number of sensors to determine whether a different gear is required. Which sensor to cure this is anyone’s guess until it has been scanned? It may also be a solenoid that is not functioning?
