Ok, I've always regarded these with sheer eyeball rolling and little more than a chuckle unless they actually go into an engine and cost a significant amount...but what is with all the claims all the time? The "performance" chip I'm referring to is http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PERFORMANCE-CHIP-PONTIAC-GRAND-AM-1990-2005-1993-1992_W0QQitemZ310023266732QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item310023266732 Obviously, these claims are complete BS. I know this. But what do these actually do? My best guess is that they just lie to your cars computer about certain ratios to force it to put out more power than it should be under the circumstances...but I can't figure out how that might possibly end up saving you gas. Also, if I am somewhat right with my assumption, wouldn't it wreck your engine much sooner than it would otherwise? If someone would shed a little light onto this for me I would really enjoy knowing the deal! Thanks, Nate

Hi Nate! You might be able to alter something to maximize use of higher octane fuel otherwise this is BS as you think. Car makers would have done it if it was that simple and really helped anything, T

What that thing does is wires into the temperature sensor and lies to the PCM. I would not bother with it. Usually just causes check engine light to come on and will result in removal of product. My opinion is to take the 8.95 plus shipping and buy you a hamburger and coke. Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds
