I have new pads and discs for 4 months under a thousand miles whilst using. If the caliper then ceases will the pads fall off?

You mean seizes right? Generally pads won't lose their linings if that happens especially new ones. May have ruined them? If a wheel is sticky or frozen it could be a caliper (do both sides) or the flex hose can fail and lock the pressure to it. To test for that just crack a bleeder on frozen one and if wheel frees right up replace both hoses. IMO - brake things should always be both sides, T
