Does anyone know if the plastic under engine cover is really needed? Mine was half off during the last snow storm, finally all of it came off. Been off for weeks, Nissan said it wouldn't hurt to be off for awhile but what the heck, I'll leave it off unless I'm hurting the engine.

Hi, That piece that goes between the tires and the grill, like it would keep stones, water, ect., from coming off the road and hitting the underside of the engine. It also goes up around the oil filter and during oil changes you've got to pull the piece away to get too the filter. Don't know what the techs call it.

Ok - now I get it. It won't be a wicked problem without it unless the engine is getting showered with stones and mud etc., but it does play a part in the way the air moves thru your grill for your radiator also so if it's getting warm to hot where you are get it fixed soon. Rule of thumb: It the car maker put it there you need it! They don't like to waste money on parts that you can't see, T
