Are there any special tools required to replace the ball joints on a 96 pontiac transport van? If so what are they? Can anyone help?

No I wouldn’t say anything special, a chisel and hammer, maybe a drill or C clamp press and then an assortment of hand tools. I’m also assuming that you all ready have a set of safety stands because you would be nuts to crawl under a vehicle without them.
The hammer and chisel is because, if it’s still the original ball joint it’s riveted to the control arm and you’ll have to chisel the heads of the rivets off. Then you’ll have to drill, hammer or press out the remaining shank of the rivet, without damaging the control arm. After that it’s a breeze to bolt in the new joint.
A word of caution; I’ve seen skilled Tech’s dummy a control arm to the point of having to replace it during the course of removing the rivets.
Wouldn’t it be easier and probably more cost effective to take the van in and pay someone to do this.
The flat rate guide pays less then an hour, .9 to be exact to replace it. 50 or 60 bucks will sound cheap after buying everything you need, the time you’re going to spend doing this; let alone the frustration of screwing up the control arm.
Just my opinion.
Dan.
