Poor Wiper Performance

I have a 95 Crown Vic with crappy wipers. The blades themselves are fairly new. But yesterday I got caught in a very heavy rainstorm, and noticed the wipers clean the glass OK when stopped, but when in motion they seem to back away from the glass surface and just smear the water around without cleaning. I've bent the arms to increase pressure with little improvement. Is it time to change the arms? Can weak arm springs cause this kind of problem? They are originals so they've been in use for a long time. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Robert

I hear you and two things likely. Lousy brand of whole blade not just inserts and or the arm just lost it and needs new ones I think available new and even old good used should be fine - check if used and price out new - I don't buy many for anything (whole arms) just whole blade and rubber only Anco or Trico, no bargain brands. Bending really shouldn't have helped much and never took clear notice on these but if excessive may touch hood if hide-a-way even a bit? Also, Despite claims I hate Rain-X on windshields. Sides fine but hell to get that stuff off when not raining just so wiper ratchet away over that stuff on me even harm the rubber? T
