Potential gear problem???? Sign In

Hi everyone,

I have a Peugeot 307 S 1.6. (im from UK). My car was in the garage 4 weeks ago having the servo reparied on it. I don't know how this happened as the car has been barely used and I had the gears, clutch and breaks replaced within the first 6 months of purchasing the car from new. The car is now 2 years old and mileage is very low.

Anyway, last week I was driving along in my car, lights were against me so I waited at a junction in first gear before I could go and the car wouldn't move. It made a funny noise and then I heard a bump kind of noise and realized the car had gone out of gear. So I put it back in gear and went on my way. It did the same thing again 20minutes later and I definitely put it in gear correctly. I always double check I'm in gear before I set off to be on the safe side.

Also when I'm reversing in my garage, I can smell strongly burning rubber. Any other time and I have no problem. I didn't have a gear problem the last time I took the car out but I thought I would mention it just incase.

Does this sound like a potential gear problem? What would make the car go out of gear?

Also what would cause the burning rubber smell when I'm reversing the car into my garage? There is a slight hill.
