Prius C "Hybrid Failure, Stop Car" message Sign In

About 2 months ago, I got the Stop Car/ Hybrid Problem message on my 2015
Prius C. It has about 250k miles. I stopped and waited, restarted, and
the message disappeared. I also got a check engine code P261b. When I got home,
I noticed that the overflow reservoir for the engine was low on antifreeze
so I filled it. After a short while of using the car, the code disappeared.
But it reappeared again a few weeks later. I found a mechanic who works on
hybrids. He told me that there was a small leak in the cooling pump; he installed
a new gasket. All the codes disappeared. A week later the P261B code reappeared.
Two days later it disappeared again. Two days ago, as I was driving on the freeway
I got the Stop Car Hybrid System Msg again. I tried to get off the freeway in the
bitter cold, and it did not make it all the way up the uphill exit ramp.
I waited on the side, started the car again and slowly drove home on a local road.
Yesterday I started the car and the Msg reappeared together with the P261b engine code.
After starting it a second time, that Msg disappeared, but the engine code remained.
I drove it for a while, and the P261b code disappeared also. There has to be a problem
somewhere. In this cold winter, I don't want to get stuck in some barren area.

P261B Engine water pump assembly speed is less than 900 rpm while the engine water pump assembly is operating (1 trip detection logic).

Possible causes

Open or short in engine water pump assembly circuit
Engine water pump assembly
ECM
