Radiator & cooling system Sign In

I drive a 1996 Honda Accord (4 cyc). The car got hot a few months ago. when it cooled I checked the radiator and the level was low. I checked the radiator overflow tank and it was full. I poured the full overflow coolant back into the radiator. it seemed fine for a few days then the same routine. My mechanic wasn't sure what the issue was so he replaced my thermostat (I like my mechanic). It seemed better for a few weeks and then this problem started again. I now pour the coolant back after every long trip or every day or two if I take short trips. I have been lucky to not get stopped in traffic for a long time to cause over heating. My mechanic did replace the lower radiator hose 8 months ago after it broke on a long drive. Any thoughts would be appreciated. thank you

Your mechanic should have pressure tested the cooling system to find out where the coolant is going.

Yes check at HT suggests. If you are just finding reservoir too full and radiator low IF THIS HAS A PRESSURE CAP ON RADIATOR the cap could do that. The overheating may have already made troubles beyond just that. Also any hose or reason for loss of vacuum between reservoir and radiator would allow coolant out to tank but not back into radiator when it cools...... T
