Radiator not siphoning coolant from reservoir Sign In

Hello: I'm the original owner of a 1991 Mits Montero 5speed 4x4, 104,000 original miles. The coolant reservoir is completely full. This fluid did not flow back to the radiator. No engine lights came on. Dashboard temp gauge was in normal range during my drive. I checked radiator fluid before my drive and it was full and the reservoir was empty. New thermostat and upper radiator hose new with less than 1000 miles. After my drive, when I discovered the problem, the rad cap was tight and pressure relief sound was heard when I opened it while cold. No signs of leaks anywhere, just fluid didn’t siphon back to rad from reservoir.

That would mean you either have a bad cap or there is a leak in the system pulling air.

The tube to the reservoir from an on radiator cap matters big time! If that or any reason it sucks back air tank stays full, radiator and engine gets air. Find and fix that now or wreck an engine over it. HT said CAP is responsible to allow air back but also stop and hold pressure as coolant expands and may not work. You can test it or go new but need to know why this is happening or blow this engine with air in it,

(edit) It's not "Siphoning" coolant back the pressure drops when it cools it draws it back. Just know wrong word used)
