Question: Anyway of changing the rear pads on a 2012 Toyota Avensis without plugging in to a Toyota computer? I've been to most local mechanics and none have the up to date software. Is there a possible bypass... Manual wind back etc? Just get annoyed by Toyota main dealers ripping us off Thanks Charlieboy

I don't know of that car sold to the US but what's with needing brakes on a 2012 vehicle? Isn't this a warranty item so early? Generally wear items are not under warranty but so early something may be all wrong. No info on something that new if it was a US model, T

I wouldn't try it. It has an electronic parking brake built into it and the scanner will retract the piston. You're probably looking at a couple hundred dollars each if you damage that caliper. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I was thinking something like that but couldn't know as that came from the UK? I still question why so early unless driver error (perhaps can leave parking brake on?) or abuse which would not be a warranty job, - T

A lot of the newer vehicle are using organic pads in the rear and the wear patterns are different. The rears are wearing out a lot quicker than the fronts on a lot of late model 4 wheel disc.

The aftermarket, such as AUTEL's EBS301, has tools that plug into your DLC to retract your calipers, but for some reason they are in the $200 price range. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Thanks for reply people. yes im in UK. Im a Cab driver so have done 36K already. had to go to main dealer in the end but got lucky, found a decent one. Charged me just labour and put my German pads on. Toyota pads are like weetabix! Apparently software for 2012 models will not be available to non Toyota mechanics for another 6 months so had to go main dealer.
