1992 Mistubishi Mirage. I was out of town for about a month. The rear tire on passenger side had a slow leak, and was totally flat when I was back. So I switched it with the backup tire. Now when I try to back up the car, the rear tire on the driver side won't move. It will leave a black track on the ground if I push the gas peddle really hard. I was told long time ago that I had a bad suspension. Could this be the cause?

Couple possibilities: Is this spare tire and wheel the correct wheel for the car. If you have disc brakes on back sometimes an incorrect wheel will pin the caliper and lock but either forward or back. If parking brake was set all the time the car sat it may have frozen pretty hard and that one could be that stuck. It's also possible that the wheel cylinder or caliper if disc rear froze right up. If this is and probably is a brake at fault consider replacing the same parts on the other side when it's determined what is holding it so hard. Suspension parts should not be able to cause this, T

Thanks for the advise. The backup tire is much smaller than the other tires. So I changed the old tire back. The problem is still the same. Then I realized that my disc brakes are not disk brakes. My parking brake normally is very loose. Now it will become very hard to pull if I back up the car. And if I move the car forward, and then pull the parking brake couple of times, it becomes easy to pull again. I did have parking break set while I was gone. Does this sound more like parking brake froze up? Thanks.

Sounds like a parking brake cable is frozen. The "space saver" spare tire and wheel if for that car would not be a problem and only a problem when the rim of a wheel hits the caliper when a wrong wheel is used. Not a problem with drum brakes. Pull on the cable while looking at them and try to jockey it free. That drum will be a pest to remove if frozen up now and you may have to cut the cable off. If things are that corroded check on parts available as this could domino into needing more to get it all back in working order, T

Thanks a lot. I will try that. Maybe it's a time for a new car.
